Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is a surgical specialty involving the restoration, reconstruction, or alteration of the human body. It can be divided into two main categories: reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery includes craniofacial surgery, hand surgery, microsurgery, and the treatment of burns.

In most cases, the skin remains partially attached to the body, creating a "flap". The flap is then repositioned and stitched over the damaged area. For more complex reconstruction, a technique called a free flap is used.

In most instances, individuals in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are the best candidates for facelift surgery. However, anyone in good standing health who is beginning to notice the signs of aging on their face are good candidates.

Though postoperative care includes steps to reduce the risk of infection, it remains one of the more common complications of plastic surgery. For instance, infections occur in 1.1 to 2.5 percent of people who undergo breast augmentation. The skin infection cellulitis may occur after surgery.

The “lunchtime facelift,” or thread lift, is a faster, cheaper and less invasive version of the traditional facelift. As its name implies, the procedure uses threads (sutures) to lift different parts of the facial skin. Essentially, it hooks the skin and pulls it up.
